Vale Col Newman

Territory FM Station Manager Matt Bern reports: “We lost a Top FM legend today – Col Newman has passed away. He was our mornings announcer for two stints on 104one. The second stint was in the mid 90s. He got stuff done and commanded a lot of listeners. He arrived in Darwin as the Area Manager for Carlton United Brewery in the 80s, worked for the Diamond Beach Casino (MIndil Casino) and was the public face of the Taxi Council.

What you may not know is but Col Newman was one of the people responsible for the B52 which still sits today in the Aviation museum out on the Stuart Highway. He was also the brains behind a alcoholic drink called the Nipple Beer! He was a Territory treasure and a well respected broadcaster from our Top FM days.
Here’s more of Col in a 2019 interview with Matt Bern ( listen at 20min mark)
