In the latest GfK Radio 360 Survey (#8/2023), talk stations 2GB Sydney and 3AW Melbourne continue their reign at No 1. 2GB has a share of 12.1% (-0.3), 3AW has 13.6% (+0.1). Triple M stations lead in both Brisbane and Adelaide. 5MMM in Adelaide has a share of 14.4% (-0.5) and 104.5 Triple M in Brisbane has a share of 13.3% (+1.5). 96FM in Perth is No 1 at 15.3% (+2.3).
Michael McLaren has been confirmed as the new host of 2GB Afternoons, commencing in January 2024. McLaren started his radio career at 2GB in 2006 as a program producer. His on-air career kicked off in 2011, first hosting 2GB’s Weekend Overnight program before taking on Australia Overnights Monday-Friday in 2016. In 2023, he fronted 2GB’s number one rating Weekend Mornings program.
In the latest GfK radio survey for Newcastle, 102.9 Triple M was the top rating station with a share of 20.3% (-2.1). They were followed by Hit 106.9 with 15.4% (+1.5). Next came 105.3 NewFM with 11.4% (+1.4). Triple M rated No 1 in breakfast, morning, afternoon and drive.
Sydney radio legend Doug Mulray of Triple M breakfast and WS FM drive fame has (apparently) passed away at the age of 71. At the time of printing (1.30am) this had not been reported on any news service but had been confirmed by at least two close friends. In December 2022 it was reported that he was struggling with a chronic illness.
Hit 102.5 Mount Isa was the most listened to station according to the latest survey from Mount Isa Xtra Insights. The station achieved 49.8% of listeners. Following Hit 102.5 was ABC North West QLD with 14.4%.
