4KQ Brisbane Sale

ARN could soon announce the sale of Brisbane radio station 4KQ. KQ is part of the Pure Gold Network that includes: GOLD 104.3 Melbourne and WSFM in Sydney.

ARN was hoping to retain 4KQ however ACMA requires it to sell the station after it acquired an additional 46 stations with the purchase of Grant Broadcasters. However ARN will keep Brisbane station KIIS 97.3.

In an interview with The Music Network, CEO of ARN, Ciaran Davis, said: “There’s been a lot of interest. We’re running a process… We’re coming towards the mid to end of that process. I would think within the next six to eight weeks, we’d have something on that.”

  4. I hope SEN don’t buy 4KQ. It would be a sad day if they did. I think you’ll see someone like Nova buy 4KQ and launch a Smooth on AM in Brisbane. Also ACE could buy and do what they did to 2UE in Sydney.

    • Gary, NOVA already have a half share in KIIS 97.3, which I believe would preclude them from buying 4KQ, unless they sell that share back to ARN.

  5. Please not SEN, Brisbane.
2CH under Cherie Romaro’s programming had just hit it’s benchmarks for ratings and cumes when SEN1170 took the frequency & CH was sent to digital.
4KQ is the most successful AM music station in Australia.
Whoever buys it should simply acknowledge that and keep it going.
Not just for nostalgia value, it is a highly successful business!

  6. I have just heard about the sale and closing down of 4KQ as we know it. I am devastated. 4KQ is an icon and the last of its kind. I am so sad for the stations staff and I am so very sad for us the listeners. Like the death of a good friend, someone who has been there for us for as far back as we can remember.
