GLOBAL CHRISTIAN YOUTH RADIO PROGRAM CELEBRATES SEVENTH BIRTHDAY

Global youth radio show The Reality Zone™ recently celebrated seven years on air, and there’s no sign of it stopping!

The one hour weekly radio show attracts more than five million listeners a week and airs on more than 100 radio stations including major cities across Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, Europe and the UK.

Presenters Don Reddin and Moondog from Life FM Adelaide say the program aims to reach today’s global youth culture through radio by creating real and relevant programming based on real need not perceived need.

“The Reality Zone is a place where listeners plug into presenters of their own age and guests who are real with them,” Don says.

“The premise for the show is that if one is going to communicate with 16-25 year olds, you have to understand our values and attitudes,” he says.

“Today’s young person seeks to have strong relational connections. We operate in community, usually three or four close and trusted friends, where decisions are made together,” Moondog says.

“We are seeking more from life than prosperity. We want meaning, trusted guidance and something we can hold on to. Rather than legends and heroes with a status that we can’t attain, we are looking for ordinary, real people who have integrity and are good role models,” Don explains.

“Put simply, we want reality, not hype - that’s The Reality Zone in a nutshell,” adds Moondog.

The program deals with issues that are relevant to young listeners - things like compassion for others, dealing with tragedy, discernment with dress and fashion, drug abuse, getting along with one’s family, the occult, racism, sex abuse, and sexual purity.

Special guests on The Reality Zone in the past few weeks have included Bono (U2), Newsboys’ Peter Furler and Paul Colman, Switchfoot, Jars Of Clay, Delirious?, as well as Reggie Dabbs, Jurgen Matthesius, Reinhard Bonnke, and Judah Smith – people with whom young people identify.

The Reality Zone first went to air in May 2001.
